Tribute to Brave Boudica – as part of my Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman exhibition series.
Boudica was a fearless female warrior who took on the Romans when they invaded Britannia around 0050. She deserves this piece made from 16 strands of colour graduated Roman glass, from AFghanistan, dating around 100 BCE, and her trophy, a Roman belt buckle. She wouldn’t have worn it to buy her potatoes in the market as she was too busy, but if she had, she would have told heaps of stories of her conquests. Ends with a multi strand gold washed clasp. Rare and valuable.
