Striking red African “coral” beads, with a beautiful silver incised pendant from Nepal. Two Bohemian “white heart” red trade beads hug a gorgeous 18th millefiori??glass bead from Venice, Italy. Between the beads are stainless steel spacers. The necklace is strung on multiple lines of waxed cotton, for flexibility and strength.
The necklace ends with two old silver Tuareg travelling beads, apparently to show people on the road you are not an enemy. A nice tale, I’m happy to believe. My??signature tassel ends in African glass beads, and a Mauritanian conch shell hair bead as??a toggle.
As with all my creations, this is a unique, individual, one off that took me hours and hours to get just right. I collect all my components by scrabbling in souks and hessian bags and dusty shops for the most unique treasures my dealers can part with. All my pieces have little dings, dents, and signs of wear from their global journeys and age, which add to their charm. You will be the new custodian of a piece of wearable art, that has its own story. Imagine if these beads could speak.
