Old Moroccan Silver Pendant with Roman Glass Necklace N740

$1,300.00 AUD

Very Special Indeed

This exceptional piece of silver from Essaouira is known as a “citadel piece”. There are more common, humble ones around, but this hallmarked one is very rare and therefor culturally valuable. It’s a Moroccan forehead ornament from the plains stretching between Marrakech and Essaouira.  Two of the seven holes are for a string to fasten around the head. The five other holes would have had silver dangles, which alas, are missing.  The green stone is coloured glass that mimics urban riches and gems like emeralds.  It has a Ram’s head mark, around 1925. The letter M on the corner shows it was probably made in Marrakech.  The local name is “Tab’a”, roughly means “seal” with an underlying meaning that the forehead bears a seal/sign/signature.   (This information was given to me by one of my trusted information “go-to” experts when I know I have something special but don’t know all the details. I have threaded it with ancient Roman glass, circa 200AD, and silver.
