Yemen silversmiths were fantastically talented craftspeople. They were geniuses at wire and scroll work, filigree and application. Brides wore massive amounts of silver around their bodies, dowry for when life got tough. They fled Yemen in 1948, heading mainly for Morocco. They left their cartouches, or hall marks behind. Lucky the collector who finds Yemen work with intact hall marks. Many Yemen pieces are in private collections world wide.
